As part of efforts to raise awareness and deepen public engagement around the
Sierra Leone Regional Rice Value Chain Project (RRVCP), a weekly radio
programme has been launched to bring the voices, challenges, and successes of the
project directly to the people.
Grow Salon is a dynamic media platform that spotlights the real-time progress of the
RRVCP, giving a stage to farmers, project staff, agricultural experts, and local
stakeholders. Each episode focuses on key project updates, thematic discussions on
rice production, and inspiring human-interest stories from across the regions where
RRVCP is active. The programme airs every Monday at 11:00 AM on AfriRadio,
with a wider national audience reached every Saturday at 6:00 PM on SLBC
(Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation).
From conversations on irrigation and mechanisation, to profiles of master farmers and
youth in agriculture, the content is designed to inform, educate, and inspire. The
segments are produced in an engaging format with interviews and practical tips for
smallholder farmers, while also creating space for community feedback.
So far, the media outreach has sparked renewed interest in agriculture, particularly
among young people and women, who hear stories of transformation and resilience
from people just like them. With every broadcast, the programme reinforces a simple
but powerful message: Sierra Leone can grow what it eats, and farmers are at the
heart of this movement.
